VCJC will be holding our ANNUAL GALA on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 12 noon at the Riverdale K Grill House to celebrate this year’s honoree, Gary Axelbank.
You can now order JOURNAL ADS here to take advantage of this opportunity to visibly support our organization and its efforts for the community. You can also order tickets for attending the Gala. You can read more about us below.
The Journal will be distributed as hard copy to all Gala attendees and all advertisers and will also be available digitally on this website. See how great last year’s Journal looked

About our Honoree, Gary Axelbank
Gary is well-known as the host and senior producer of Bronx Talk, the borough’s flagship talk show on BronxNet cable television since 1994. He is also the creator and publisher of thisistheBronX.info, the borough’s “everything Bronx hub”. In addition, he is the host of The Bronx Buzz on BronxNet, a weekly reporter’s roundtable that debuted in March 2016.
A life-long resident of Van Cortlandt Village, Gary represents the third generation of his family involved with VCJC. He attended the Hebrew School at the old Gouverneur Avenue site, and both his bar mitzvah and wedding, officiated by Rabbi Jacob Sodden (OBM), were celebrated at the synagogue. During the past year, he has been an active participant in a special committee looking at the future direction of VCJC. Recently he exhibited his special talent as the moderator of an open forum held at a breakfast honoring our new congressman, Adriano Espaillat.
A little bit about the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (lots more elsewhere on this website!)
For over 85 years, the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center has served the Jewish community and general community of Van Cortlandt Village. We rent space in our building to the JASA Senior Center and to the Mosholu-Montefiore Day Care Center. While that income is fixed for the length of the leases, our expenses required for the operation of the synagogue continue to rise, leaving the synagogue with a need for additional income. To help fill this gap we urge you to support us, not only from your hearts, but also from your pockets.
