Van Cortlandt Jewish Center — VCJC

Who and Where we are

The Van Cortlandt Jewish Center is a modern Orthodox synagogue in the Van Cortlandt Village section of the northwest Bronx.  It was established in 1927 and has been in its current building at 3880 Sedgwick Ave for approximately 60 years.  That’s the front of our beautiful main sanctuary at the top of the page.

In addition to our congregation and its activities we also host a Senior Citizen Center operated by JASA and an Early Childhood Education Center operated by the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC).  You can learn more about these on and through the OUR COMMUNITY page.

What we do

We currently hold Shabbos morning and Holiday services, but since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have suspended regular morning minyans. You can see more information about our RELIGIOUS SERVICES and also see specific schedules for services, events, and candle lighting on our EVENTS PAGE.  The Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC) also has maintained an active and aggressive schedule of activities that was negatively affected by COVID, but which we are now rebuilding.  These have included Succos Meals, Kristallnacht Remembrance, Bazaar & Carnival, Chanukah Party, Tu B’Shevat Shallosh Seudos (celebrating the New Year of trees), Monthly Sunday Breakfast Lectures (speakers with religious and community topics), Winter Raffle and Lunch, Purim Party/Megillah Reading, Sabbath Across America, Israel Independence Lunch, Passover Seders and lunches, Holocaust Memorial Program, Journal Gala, and Tisha B’Av inspirational movie viewing. In addition, we have an active SISTERHOOD, whose activities include Chanukah Party, Purim Party, Museum excursions, and Movie viewing/guest speakers.
