An Appeal from the Met Council for SNAP help

An Appeal from the Met Council for SNAP help

The Met Council on Jewish Poverty has issued the following, which is being reproduced here in its entirety.

Right now, one in five people in our NYC community are facing an immediate crisis.

The federal government shutdown promises to cut off SNAP benefits this Saturday, November 1. More than 1.73 million city residents – mostly children, the elderly and the disabled – will not receive the lifeline that helps them put food on the table each month.

We cannot close the gap, but we can act now to help those most affected.

Met Council is launching an emergency response to provide low-cost, high nutrition staples to those affected. With funds raised in the next 24 hours we will provide additive food to SNAP recipients who turn to our pantry network.

We need your help to make this happen.

Your gift today will provide shelf-stable groceries like rice, beans, and other basics.
$18 ensures a homebound senior receives 9 nutritious meals’ worth of food.
$36 helps a family of four put food on the table for three days.
$180 can help 10 people with disabilities struggling to get by.
$1,800 can provide groceries for 100 meals.
A gift of $10,000 will provide dignity and hope to more than 500 people.

Please give now to help us respond swiftly and compassionately. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.

Together, we can make sure our neighbors don’t go hungry.
